Steve graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a degree in mass communications. His duties at LePoidevin Marketing include making print ads, press releases, fact sheets, using Facebook as an effective social media tool and much more. Some clients that Steve writes for include an industrial industry named Snap On Tools. He explained that about 90 percent of his day is compiled of him writing. He also mentioned how every day is different which makes his job so exciting.
Steve also introduced us to Cision Point. Cision Point is a software tool that allows quick searches and manages the impact of coverage across tradition, digital and social media. Steve compared this tool with an "online newsroom" that allows clients to post press releases, photos etc. It was really interesting learning about this PR software because chances are that I will be using it someday or be asked about it in an interview and learning a little bit about it already is a significant source.
Steve also mentioned that he uses platform alerts to monitor social media. He uses google alert, which is a profile that you set up with key words that will alert you when something specific is online. Steve also showed us a whitepaper which is a feature writing that is to the point and states the case about a product. In his, it was over a couple pages long and included pictures.
At the end of Steve's presentation, he gave us a case study and put us in groups to see if we could formulate ideas of the situation at hand like PR professionals. It was really interesting to be hands on with this idea. Steve gave the class a lot of useful information that I'm honored to have gotten.
I didn't know about Google Alerts till hearing Steve's presentation and I found it very interesting and something I was not aware of. I also had the opportunity to learn about whitepapers, which was a new concept to me. I learned a lot of new information and over all the presentation was awesome!
